How to avoid results like the MN Senate Election

There are two things occurring in Minnesota right now which also occurred in Florida in the 2000 presidential election:
1) There is an extremely close vote.
2) There are a number of ballots which are ambiguous.
Both of these things are unavoidable. Close elections will happen from time to time and it should be assumed that they [...]

Winning isn’t everything, its the only thing

Here are the results for the top keywords coming from Google over the last three days (Nov. 1 to Nov. 3):
ulrur 22
travel blog 21
everything everywhere 15
gary arndt 13
november wallpaper 10
After all the effort I put into working the keyword “Travel Blog”, I am getting more traffic from a typo. I should note that I am ranked #1 for [...]

Should it stay or should it go

I’ve slowly been getting rid of junk on my site. Mostly they have been widgets from blog networks. I have two left on my site and I think they are about to get the axe.
BlogCatalog
I already got rid of MyBlogLog. It drove about 3 visits per month. BlogCatalog is better, but not by [...]

Getting a new theme

I’m starting the process of getting a new theme for my travel around the world blog. When I made my last change, it was more out of desperation. I needed to change and so I got a theme which sort of worked and did the whole thing in about 24 hours. Since then, I’ve [...]

Travel Around the World

If you haven’t figured it out, I don’t post information about the back end or business stuff on my main site because I don’t want to bore readers with the details of running a website. I’d rather bore them with the details of traveling.
This is where I bitch about my website.
For the last [...]

Culling The Twitter

I’ve massively cut down on the number of people I follow on Twitter. It was getting to be just too much noise. Following everyone who follows me just isn’t possible. I have created a bit of an ad hoc system of picking who to follow:
1) Do I know you? I don’t have to have met [...]

Keyword Analysis

From May 14 to May 20, I received 514 visits from search engines. Those 514 visits represented 358 different search terms.
I’ve been focusing on the term “travel blog” for SEO purposes because I really have no clue what other term to focus on. (My results for “travel blog” are getting better, but I don’t [...]

Google SERP

I have, briefly, made it to the first page of search results for “travel blog” on Google.

This is the highest I’ve seen it. I’m usually on the middle of page 2 lately.
I’ve also cracked the Technorati Top 10k. I think the two are related.

Weekly Traffic Since Feb 2007

Here are my weekly traffic numbers since Feb. 2007.

Phase 2

I’ve contracted some people to help me get a few more of my new projects online:
- Desktop Wallpapers – I purchased a script which manages collections of wallpapers and have hired someone to customize the script to work with my site. The goal is to just leverage my photos to drive more Google traffic [...]

I’m back

I’m going to revive this site while I’m traveling for non-travel related posts and posts about my main site and the other sites I’ll be starting.

If you are still geting feeds from here…

Go to Everything-Everywhere.com.

New Website

I’m not going to be posting here much more. I’m beginning work on my trip website which now exists (sort of) at http://www.everything-everywhere.com.
There is no content yet. I’m going to be changing most everything, including adding Google Maps support, better video integration, changing colors, etc.
I’m open to any and all suggestions at this [...]

Tiger Woods Invades Europe

I have never played a round of golf in my life. Ever. Yet my odd fascination with records and statistics has led me to Tiger Woods.
You can read about all his records and everything else anywhere on the Internet, but I have for you today a special Gary exclusive calculated by me.
Since he [...]
